Dude you need to make them aware of this then, as embarrasing as it can be. I also have it and my mom thinks I sit in my room all day avoiding people because I’m selfish or lazy or whatever, but its not that. Then I told her about this but she still overlooks it sometimes. SAD hit me hardest once I already had a car and cell phone bill etc. So now I HAVE to always have a job to pay the bills. And it ***** because I cant perform well socially at work. This disorder in my opinion is a demon.

Ever since the 7th grade I’ve been reluctant to talk to people, I often refused to speak my mind in conversations with students, I used to tell my friends who would talk about getting girlfriends all the time that girls were too much trouble, I really thought “god, if I try to speak to this girl in a way that I seem interested, they’d get disgusted” it’s terrible, I quit school after my 9th grade year because I couldn’t take it anymore, I’ve been getting depressed a lot lately

Its great that people are becoming more aware of this from shows like this one. I am a reasonably confident person and have good self esteem but I get so nervous and overwhelmed when I’m put on the spot. With me it very much triggered by people looking at me, I blush so easily. what they sayed about lost oppurtunities is so true,. I have many talents I want to be a musician a film maker or cinematographer, but I feel completely held back by my nerves

As a result of being distanced by kids at primary school and through the early years of secondary I was so conscious of myself I left school at 15. I’m VERY capable, I was told I’d be able to do anything, but thanks to this I’m nobody. I’m desperately trying to get myself back on track but it’s just so fucking hard. I’ve been this way for the past 3 years.

Exactly the same story here at home. My parents are mistaking it for pure laziness.

I have the most lovely friends but I **** having to turn them down, I never used to be anxious of speaking to people, this has only come on in recent years as a result of being distanced by kids at primary school. I hope to God I can get out of this.

it sounds brutal but that’s the mindset you have to have if you have this. I have a strong form of it and will take this into account. You could just have saved my life.

Social anxiety affects the very young, middle aged and very old, the 15-30 age group have a free ride, delusions of grandeur.

I over came SA, just knowing that it can’t physically hurt you.
I was super afraid to talk to people because I thought they would **** me for it.
I just did it one day and gradually built upon being able to make eye contact and properly form sentences in my head.

    Its about faking confidence. =)

I thinking of taking medication for SA, does anyone know if they really work?

Not true. I DID have this, and I stupidly listened to doctors and went on Xanax for years and I wont even get into the spiraling nightmare THAT caused. Drugs only mask the real issues – and by saying ‘you can’t help it’ you only disable and make yourself worse. You can say ‘I don’t know how to help it, it seems like I have no control’ which is far different from saying you have none. Behavioral therapy does work – STAY AWAY from the meds.

Thats because you dont have the disorders…people with disorders know what they feel makes no sence they just cant help it.
