It’s frankly kind of bizarre seeing that there are people here who think the American system of insurance based healthcare actually works (or at least that there isn’t anything better).
And what’s with the fear of universal healthcare, ie’ the way *every* civilised country does it? You already pay more than anyone else in the world and get the *worst care* in the developed world (actually, there are 3rd world nations that do better). How could it possibly be worse?
BTW, in aus we pay 1%

Different systems have different strengths and different weaknesses. Communism, for example, has a problem with personal motivation. Capitalism, on the other hand, has a *serious* problem with collective action and/or giving stuff away.
Running your whole country on one system, to the exclusion of all else, guarantees that at least some parts of it won’t work. This is why America, with its extremely radical version of capitalism, has the worst health care system in the developed world.

You do know that you don’t have privacy anymore. I hope you do know that government agents can search your house, take your property and life anytime they want with no reason nor accountability.
All I’m saying is that there is no free lunch. Government has always been inefficient in the long term, so if you put in $1 in tax, government will return $0.50 or less. It’s inefficient, bureaucratic, and you WILL GET WORSE CARE.
It comes down to personal responsibility and crisis planning.

If you save and plan and make some insurance, you won’t get bankrupted or be left penniless.
US healthcare is not good, but neither is universal healthcare.
You will pay more taxes, everything will cost more and you will get less healthcare.
Why would private healthcare encourage greed? Why would one want to be greedy on healthcare?

You do know that the USA is one of only 5 countries that doesn’t have a sort of universal health care system? And countries with Universal health care provide better care than the United states?
Did you know you can go to Columbia and Saudi Arabia and get better health care than you could in the United States?
AND DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT AMERICANS ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WITH PRIVACY AND LIBERTY?
COME ON!

I think that there is no drive to change the system because there are great profits to be had in treating people who are ill - mostly ill because of bad lifestyles.

its all about the money, why is it all ways about the money

Businesses often pay $700 or more per month per employee to provide healthcare coverage. They then pass these costs on to customers. So we all pay for healthcare through higher prices. If we obtain Universal Healthcare, it is unlikely that companies will decrease prices. So our taxes will go up and prices will remain the same for goods and services, so we’ll be double billed for healthcare.

It’s common logic in Eurpoed that the sooner you trat people the more affordable healthcare becomes. Treated people are healthier and less likey to need more expensive care. the logic of this nation surpasses belief

They aren’t talking about socialized medicine, they are talking about making companies that get rewarded for thier patients health, not thier sickness. Look at the comment below, ridiculous, yes the Canadian and other systems are not perfect either but at least people of all types can get treatment and that should be the whole point, not a big cash grab. Excellent Idea put forth by the video.

you are so wrong about that, at least I can get help when I need it and don’t get wheeled out to the street to die. You must work for the Insurance companies because they are the only ones who think US health care is good. Drugs are cheaper here, people come from the US to buy them so what are you talking about? Private health care encourages greed. yes I pay more tax so what? my people take care of each other, whats wrong with that? You must be rich enough not to care lol

Universal health care sounds good. We all want to have health care at the lowest cost possible. But this sort of socialized monstrosity doesn’t work.
Here in Hong Kong, the quality of “free” health care deteriorates, longer waiting list for very simple surgery.
With this soocialized medicine, the drug companies will have even more monopoly, more profit and no one would care what you say, because their powerful voice in the government will own you.
No privacy, no liberty and more expensive.

I told her that her HMO doctor didn’t want to see her because she was costing him money. By having less personnel to answer the phone and taking two hour lunches was in his best interest and taking care of her wasn’t. She was over utilizing her insurance and costing him more. He basically wanted her to go find another doctor by not returning her calls; which is easy to do by ignoring patients who are sick. HMO’s pay doctors by the head and its called capitation, but you don’t want sicko’s.
By pongman on Feb 22, 2009 | Reply
In regards to your incentive program of paying physicians more for keeping people healthy and not when they get sick is already in service with the HMO’s. The problem is that no one will take care of the sick people. The sick people will get dumped and left to some poor smuck of a doctor who believes in taking care of sick people and making them well. A case in point. I had a pt. who had a hard time getting an appt. she had diabetes, heart disease and hypertension.

Pharmaceutical and insurance companies spend millions of dollars on lobbyist who work on Capitol Hill. They are there to persuade our politicians not to sign on to the universal health care. They scare people in America that universal health care is bad, that people do not receive good treatment. They claim that universal health care is socialized medicine and that is only for socialist countries.
By Jevezy on Feb 26, 2009 | Reply
I am not knocking natural health care but it is important that everyone in this country has access to same health care. Right now the richer you are the better health care is available to you. The insurance companies turn down many people who need treatment, so it is nonsense to suggest that they want us to be sick. They want us well, why do you think they charge higher premiums if you have an illness like high blood pressure or diabetes?
By Jevezy on Feb 27, 2009 | Reply
Everything in this country is based on profit making on Wall Street and the ordinary American worker matters little. There are cheap insurances but many doctors refuse to accept them because they pay so little in refunds. If you want access to the best doctors or get the best treatment you have to buy the most expensive health insurance policy. A self-employed person suffers in this country. This video is only mentioning Blue Cross and Blue Shield, all insurance companies are the same.

Why is Humana advertised at the bottom of the video. I have read of cases where people have had to take Humana to court for refusal to pay for much needed treatment. Now why is health care in America so high? Simple, the pharmaceutical companies have to make their fair share from medicines, the insurance companies are only interested in how much their stock makes on Wall Street and no one cares about the ordinary hard working American citizen. This video is full of nonsense.
