What are the requirements for free health care in California?
July 4th, 2008 | by health |jshimatsu asked:
My grandmother is from Malaysia and she is living with us in California (since November 2007). She has a green card. Her health has been deteriorating and she’s been getting these terrible headaches. I really want to take her to see a doctor, but the price would be astronomical without health insurance. Is she eligible for medicare/medicaid/medical? If not, what are some other options? I’m sorry if I sound ignorant or uneducated about this, but honestly, I really don’t know anything about this. Any help I can get is very much appreciated.

There is some sarcasm to the “u have to be illegal alien to get the best health care”…but it is somewhat true too. Most hospitals will can NOT legally refuse medical care due to lack of insurance….u will need to arrange a payment plan, whatever that may be….
She is not eligable for medicare if she is not a citizen.
Go to the emergency room for treatment and when insurance is requested, tell them she has none, but u need assistance in finding proper care and will arrange for payments.

Check into free clinics, etc. Check with such organizations as the Salvation Army or the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Hopefully they can direct you to a doctor who will treat your grandmother for little or no cost (some use a scale on how much you can afford). Good Luck.

I feel for you i know a lot of “legal” immigrants who are denied services to which they are entitled because of the drains caused by Jorge Bush’s Favorite people. Do not despair, check out your telephone book it is loaded with pertinent information.Good luck and I hope your granny gets better.

If you go to the ER they will treat her. They have to treat her. It’s the law. Your problem is that as a part of getting her green card somebody, maybe you, signed an affidavit of support for her. Whoever it is that signed that affidavit of support can expect to pickup the full cost of her health care needs.
