Rep. McDermott on Children’s Health Care

May 25th, 2009 | by health |
NancyPelosi asked:

Today, the House will take up legislation to concur with the Senate amendments to H.R. 2, State Childrens Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) Reauthorization Act. Passage by the House will send the bill to the Presidents desk for his signature. This legislation reauthorizes and improves SCHIP. The Senate-passed version is very similar to the bill that the House passed on January 14 by a vote of 289-139. SCHIP was created in 1997 to provide health care coverage for children in modest-income families that earn too much for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private insurance. Over the last ten years, it has proven to be a successful and cost-effective program for providing health care.

When I heard Rep. McDermott mention the medical lottery at the clinic I was astounded, like honestly now, I might be naive, but this is the UNITED STATES and we’re having medical lottery to see who gets treated, which I grant you is better than many other countries.
I am further astounded that we’re just throwing money at this problem. Maybe we need to take a look at what is making the people sick *diet* and why medicine is so hard to come by *it’s only for people with money* KnowledgeIS Health
