very little on personal choices - very very much so because of societal restrictions. take very basic societies, e.g, the tribes of Brunei - so much of their personal appearance is decided by what the society decides is acceptable. in “modern” societies, societal restrictions work in subtle ways - the choice of soaps, and foods, and creams and even *** - all are under the influence of “advertisements” issued by those who profit by their wide spread.
